10 Top Christian Video Sites, Apps and Playlists

Posted by Anne Witton on Monday, February 15, 2016 Under: Video

In our modern world there are lots of different ways of taking in information, and video is becoming increasingly popular. Online video now accounts for 50% of all mobile traffic and 78% of people watch videos online every week*.

There are some great sites and apps to help us share interesting and thought-provoking Christian videos online, so I thought I’d collect together some of the best.

Global Short Film Network

These short films are intended to raise spiritual questions and provide a springboard for discussion. Each video comes with a set of questions designed to get you thinking, and are best used in an informal group context. Themes include acceptance, control, desire, sacrifice, love, parable, freedom, greed and family.

This is app-only now, but is well worth downloading. The mission of the founders is to facilitate online evangelism, make Jesus known and encourage people to follow him. The app is easy to use and there are lots of videos available from faith stories to apologetics, Biblical concepts and gospel explanations.

C S Lewis Doodle

Wonderful art deco-style doodles of some of C. S. Lewis’ best essays which really bring his thoughts to life.

This site is full of hundreds of video sermon illustrations, which are available to buy but are worth watching. The preview videos on the website are watermarked but are full length and easy to share.

The Bible Project

Animated videos that walk through the narrative of the Bible in a very engaging way. There are videos of specific books and videos on a theme such as atonement, law, covenant and holiness. Accompanying free teaching guides can be downloaded from The Bible Project website.

Moving Works

Moving Works aims to “Make and share films that praise God, promote mission and proclaim the gospel.”. There are a range of full-length films and 2 min shorts designed to expose people to Christian reality and promote discussion.

God’s Big Story

God's Big Story gives an overview of the story of the Bible in 10 parts and helps us to reflect on our own life in light of it. The accompanying handout (script, questions and spiritual exercises) can be downloaded here.

This is like a Christian Buzzfeed with all kinds of videos including heartwarming stories, funny stuff, cute animals, music and some videos that are just plain silly. The quality of the content varies enormously but it’s the sort of stuff that gets shared and some of them are really good.

Like the smarter older brother of GodVine, GodTube has plenty of content including sermons, music, inspirational stories, ministry and funny videos. And cute cats.

Clayton TV

Based at Jesmond Parish Church here in Newcastle, Clayton TV is the place to go for videos of Bible teaching both from JPC and from Christian events and courses such as Keswick Convention, Word Alive and Christianity Explored. Videos include teaching from Billy Graham, Phillip Jenson, Don Carson, John Piper, Vaughan Roberts and many more. There are also a few music videos.
