9 Fantastic Bible Study Apps and Websites

(1) WORDsearch Bible by LifeWay Christian Resources (Free)

Available for PC and Mac, this free Bible reference software package includes over 200 Bibles, commentaries, devotionals, dictionaries, maps and other study tools, with the option to buy more if you want. The computer software syncs with the app so that you always have your reference library handy. It's absolutely amazing that all this Christian reference material is available for free and I've already found it really useful.

(2) FaithLife study Bible (Free. Optional purchase of other translations)

A free Bible with study notes and a dictionary. There are also maps, photos and videos to enable you to get a real sense of Biblical places and history. One of the best features is the abundance of high-quality infographics, from diagrams of buildings to timelines and family trees.

There's the ability to add bookmarks, take notes, highlight and save favourite sections.

There is the option to purchase more translations of the Bible and extra content, but what you get for free is excellent.

(3) Blue Letter Bible (Free)

A study Bible app with powerful search and organisation tools. The most useful feature in my opinion is the ability to compare different translations of the Bible text side by side.

(4) Bible Researcher Plus by Sand Apps Inc. (Paid bundle or apps available separately)

Hebrew and Greek dictionaries, Bibles, Christian books, sermons, Gospel stories and photographs.

There are also other Bible reference apps from the same developer available on the Sand apps website.

(5) Bible Hub (Free)

Not pretty to look at but it does contain a wealth of free resources including parallel texts, cross references, treasury of scripture, commentaries, topical studies, interlinears, sermons, Strong's and many more resources in a range of languages.

(6) SourceView (Free with paid additional content)

Explore the Bible in an innovative way by getting to know who speaks in the Bible and the role they play. There isn't currently a native iPad app which is a shame as it would benefit from the bigger screen.

(7) BibleStudyTools (Free)

A wealth of material including audio Bibles, reading plans, Bible book synopses, parallel Bibles, interlinear Bibles, commentaries, concordances, videos, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, lexicons, maps, sermons and illustrations.

(8) Christian Classics Ethereal Library (Free)

A treasury of free classic Christian books from the likes of John Bunyan, D L Moody and John Wesley.

(9) StudyLight (Free)

An interesting homepage with a 'newspaper' look that includes panels for daily reading, today in Christian history, daily devotionals, today's articles and even a daily cartoon.

The study tools available include commentaries, concordances and dictionaries, plus Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic tools.

There is also a section for historical writings which includes works by Josephus and John Foxe. It also includes short stories and sermon illustrations written by site contributors.

The site is ad supported, but the adverts aren't too intrusive.

I hope you find those resources useful. Do get in touch or use the comments section to let me know of any I've missed.
