Soularium - Inviting spiritual conversations

Posted by Anne Witton on Monday, January 19, 2015 Under: Ministry
Last week, I had my first experience of using Soularium to engage with students on campus. It’s a great tool to help people talk about what they believe and it seems like quite a natural way to get a conversation going.

There are 50 cards all with different photos, ranging from abstract and natural scenes to pictures of human activity and objects. The idea is that you invite people to choose 3 cards to answer each of these questions:

  1. Which images would you choose to describe your life at the moment?
  2. Which images would you like to describe your life?
  3. Which images would you chose to describe your view of God?
  4. Which images describe how your spiritual beliefs were formed?
I found that it was a great way to open up a natural conversation about spiritual things and that people were pleased to be asked what they thought. It’s a privilege to be able to listen to people as they share what matters to them and talk about their experiences, often in a very open and honest way. I was also able to share some of my story of faith and talk about how God had made a difference in my life.

As part of my role on campus, I will be doing Soularium regularly in the union to meet students and engage them with spiritual issues, as well as invite them along to Student Life where they can explore the big questions of life and faith even more.

Please pray for all those that I’m meeting and making friends with, that they will be encouraged to explore spiritual issues further and come along to Student Life.

If you're interested at having a go at Soularium yourself, you can get hold of it at the Agapé shop.
