"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose." - Jim Elliot
What is Student Life?
Student Life is a nationalmovement of passionate students committed to the spiritual, social and intellectual renewal of the university through Jesus.
Many students have no Christian background and few have had the chance to hear the life-changing news about Jesus.
We exist at the university to:
Connect people to God
We believe that God is real and can be known through Jesus. We are committed to introducing people to him.
Connect people to people
We are committed to relationships and believe that friendships can be transformed by a relationship with God.
Serve the university
We love students and want to serve them and the university in any practical way we can, facing and fighting problems, and pointing the academic community to Jesus.
Change the world
We want students to have a positive impact on their communities locally and globally, motivated by God’s love.
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
John 17: 3
Student Life in Newcastle
I work on the Student Life team in Newcastle and we're all about helping people to hear about Jesus and experience him through community and friendship. The traditional approach of student ministries has been two-fold: to gather Christians and train them in evangelism, and to put on outreach events. We have found that Christians are often reluctant to put their evangelism training into practice and non-Christians are often unwilling to come to Christian events. Because of this, weʼre trying something rather different.
At Northumbria and Newcastle Universities weʼre building a community of people from all sorts of different backgrounds who meet together to eat, to build friendships and to explore the big questions of life.
We have Christians, Muslims, Hindus, people of other faiths, people from the LGBT group, British Students, International Students and people who arenʼt students at all but who love to hang around with us.
Weʼre a Student Union society at both universities and run all sorts of different things on campus to serve people at different places on their spiritual journey. That includes: Socials, a weekly meeting with food, discussion groups, partnership events with other societies, Bible studies for Christians and non-Christians, training events, conferences, humanitarian aid projects and mission projects.
